About the Event
H.E. Ambassador Franz-Michael Skjold Mellbin has been the Ambassador of Denmark to the UAE, Qatar and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) since September 2017. As Ambassador of Denmark (2007-2008) and Special Representative of the European Union for Afghanistan and Pakistan (2013-2017), Ambassador Mellbin has spent a total of five years in Afghanistan. In 2016, he facilitated the first significant Afghan peace accord in over 20 years with the Hezb-e-Islami group.
Moreover, Mellbin served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark with deployments to Germany, Brazil and China and as Danish Ambassador to Japan (2008-2011).
H.E. has been awarded the highest civilian orders of Japan (Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun, 1.st class) and Afghanistan (Ghazi Wazir Mohammad Akbar Khan Medal) for his exceptional efforts in those two countries. In addition to that, he holds the Danish Order of Dannebrog.
