Rotaract Cosmopolitan Hosts the DOGA: Supporting Stray Dogs Through Community and Calm

On the 1st of November, Rotaractors and volunteers came together for the DOGA, a relaxed community event dedicated to rescued stray dogs currently under the care of a local shelter. The morning brought together people who wanted to support animal welfare, learn more about rescue efforts, and spend time with the dogs in a calm, welcoming setting.

The event opened with an easy dog-friendly yoga session. Since all the dogs were rescues many still adjusting to human interaction the session was filled with light moments as volunteers helped them feel safe and comfortable. It created a warm atmosphere where attendees could connect not just through the yoga, but through the shared purpose of supporting the shelter’s work.

Representatives from the shelter spent time explaining the stories behind some of the dogs, the challenges of rescuing strays in the UAE, and the ongoing need for adoption, fostering, and sponsorship. Their presence gave the event a meaningful educational layer, helping participants understand how much effort and care goes into rehabilitating these animals.

As the session wrapped up, everyone stayed around for photos, short walks with the dogs, and conversations about how to continue supporting the shelter. The event may have been simple, but it highlighted the heart of Rotary and Rotaract showing up for the community, including its most vulnerable members.
